Fairy Tales

• Often tell about the adventures of a hero,
  heroine, or trickster.
• Cinderella

• Animal stories that teach a lesson or moral.
• Aesops fables are examples.
• The Tortoise and the Hare

• Often tell tall tales about a character who may
  or may not have been a real person.
• Paul Bunyon

Myths

• Describe the creation of natural occurrences and
  are often told as though they are true.

Origin of Folk Tales

• Folk Tales have been written and collected over
  the years by many great writers from around the
  world, including Aesop, Hans Christian Andersen,
  and the Brothers Grimm.

Modern Folk Tales

• Modern day writers have also written versions of
  folk tales. Some favorites are Paul
  Galdone, Steven Kellogg, and Verna Aardama.
