5It is easier to remove the nut first then the
screw from the stock. It is not necessary to
remove the center nut and screw when taking apart
your gun.
6Loosen nut and screw using two screw drivers.
7After taking nut and screw out you are ready to
remove the back screw.
8Remove rear tie down screw. (New guns will have
a long threaded screw. Old Guns will have a
shorter screw that will tighten into a hex head
screw.)
9Take out seat screw and seat. This is one of the
new long screws.
10Open lever to remove internal gun work from stock.
11Center the safety to remove internal gun work
from stock.
12Using thumb push down on the trigger guard to
remove internal gun work from stock.
13Slide stock away from internal gun work.
14Remove left and right stock fillers.
15Remove barrel band.
16Remove receiver screw on both sides of the
receiver. If you gun has the hex head screw at
the back of the receiver you will need to remove
it now.

17Lift back of the receiver to remove from frame
and valve body assembly.
18Pull bolt back from breech and remove from the
valve body. For disassembly and reassembly for
the Model 853C bolt, actuator clip and actuator
bar see slide 99 116.
19Bolt has been removed from the valve body and
housing.
20Using a flat screw driver bend the frame away
from the valve body.
21Bend out both sides of the frame to remove from
the valve body.
22The barrel seal fits between the valve body and
frame where the frame gets smaller toward the
front lever pin opening. This part will fall
away when you take off frame.

23Remove frame, pump tube and lever assembly from
valve body.
24You are now ready to take apart the lever, pump
tube and frame.
25Remove lever pin.
26Remove the lever assembly by sliding down to the
larger opening on the frame.
27Pump lever assembly has been removed from the
frame.
28Remove pump tube from lever assembly.
29Remove foam wiper from piston.
30Remove o-ring from piston.
31After removing o-ring from piston. Check the end
of the piston to be sure it is smooth and there
are no rough edges.
32Parts that are included in the 853-1 o-ring kit.
Kit includes 2 o-rings, wiper, valve, valve
spring and clip retainer.
33Oil foam wiper using gun oil or 30 weight
non-detergent motor oil. Slide over the end of
the piston into position. Make sure the wiper is
flat and is not twisted.
34Oil o-ring and slide over end of piston into the
groove.
35Examine inside pump tube to be sure it is smooth
and does not have any scaring or grooves from the
piston pin. Wipe inside tube with clean cloth.
36Remove retainer clip from top of valve body.

37Remove valve spring and valve. Remove o-ring.
38After removing valve and spring use a cloth or
q-tip to clean out the valve opening. Look inside
to be sure the opening is smooth where the valve
seats into the valve body.
39Inside of valve opening should be clean before
inserting new valve. Oil o-ring and replace on
valve body.
40Put a drop of oil on the stem of the valve before
inserting into the valve body.
41Insert valve spring on top of the valve and push
down firmly to seat valve.
42Insert pointed end of retainer into slot on the
top of the valve body.
43Tuck the clip retainer over the post on the valve
body and push into place.
44Remove trigger housing screw.
45Using a flat screw driver end pry up on the front
of the housing to remove from the post. End of
housing is tucked under the back of the valve
body so you will need to pull up toward the left
to remove.

48Insert trigger spring over post on trigger lock
and trigger.
49Insert flat side of sear over the post hole on
the trigger. Tuck trigger lock to the back side
of the sear and trigger and line up the holes.
50Push sear spring over the post on the sear.
51Insert trigger lock, sear and trigger over post
on valve body.
52Line up parts and slide over post. Press down
firmly into place.
53Tuck sear spring into opening on valve body.
54Trigger assembly should look like this on the
valve body.
55Insert lever latch spring into lever latch.
56Tuck lever latch spring and latch into bottom of
valve body.
57Lever latch and spring pressed into correct
position in valve body.
58Insert hammer spring into hammer.
59Insert hammer spring over the tip on the sear.
60Press hammer and spring back toward the rear of
the valve body so you can tuck the hammer into
place.
61Start at the rear of the valve body and tuck the
end of the housing under the rear tab.
62Press housing down and snap into place.
63Housing should be tight against the valve body
when properly fitted into place.
64Insert housing screw and tighten to valve body.
65Using a flat screw driver or tweezers tuck the
sear spring into the valve body opening. Make
sure the spring is straight up and down.
66Sear spring is in the correct position.
67Tuck rear of bolt handle assembly under the
trigger lock.
68Press bolt down and push forward so the end of
the bolt goes into the breech.
69Push pump tube over piston. The U shaped cut out
on the pump tube will be toward the inside of the
lever assembly.

70Line up the notched end of the pump tube to the
post on the valve body and press down to bottom
of the valve body.
71Slide frame over piston and pump tube.
72Push frame all the way down until the tabs line
up with the screw holes on the valve body.
73Press the ears on the frame down over the screw
holes on both sides.
74Line up lever with frame hole and insert lever
pin.
75Insert barrel seal between barrel and frame.
76Barrel seal is in the correct location.
77Tuck the ears of the receiver under the slotted
frame opening.
78Press in on the bolt handle while pushing the
receiver down into place.
79Line up receiver holes. You may need to use a
mallet to tap the receiver down over the frame.
80Insert receiver screw and tighten.
81Tighten receiver on right side.

83Line up barrel band and press down into place.
84Tuck left and right stock fillers over the barrel
band. The tabs at the back end of the stock
filler will tuck into the cut out on the receiver.
85Stock fillers should be tight against the barrel
and frame.
86Open lever and guide between the opening in the
stock. You will need to hold the barrel band and
stock fillers in place when guiding into stock.
87Guide the back of the gun into the stock.
88You will need to center the safety before you can
get the gun dropped into the back of the stock.
89Gun should sit down into the stock so the safety
switch can be moved off and on.
90Put plastic seat behind trigger guard into the
opening in the stock.
91Insert rear tie down screw into the seat. This
is the new style screw that goes directly into
the back of the receiver. If you have an older
model gun you many have a hex head screw that
went into the receiver and a shorter screw that
went into the hex head.
92Tighten the rear tie down screw.
93Line up barrel band, stock fillers and stock
screw hole. Insert stock screw. I sometimes
use a punch to get the parts all in line so the
screw will go in.
94Insert the stock nut on the other side of the
stock and tighten into place.
95Reinstall rear sight on receiver.
96For model 853C
- Slide 97-116 is for the actuator clip and
- actuator bar assembly.
97Pull bolt back to remove clip or single shot
adapter for 853C or 853CM rifles.
98Pull clip or single shot adapter out of receiver.
Go to slide 1 for instructions on how to remove
internal gun from stock.
99Pull bolt back to remove from valve body
assembly. (Note this is model 853C with actuator
clip and bar.)
100Remove bolt handle assembly.
101Remove actuator clip spring.
102Remove actuator bar.
103Remove actuator clip. You are now ready to
disassemble the rest of your gun for repair. Go
to slide 19 for next step to disassemble.
104Lay actuator clip on top of valve body. Post on
clip will fit inside opening on valve body see
next picture.
105Insert rear post on actuator clip into hole.

106Insert back of actuator bar in the slot at the
opening in the valve body.
107Drop actuator bar on top of clip tucking back
into rear slot opening on the valve body.
108Insert post on actuator bar into opening in
actuator clip.
109Press actuator bar on top of actuator clip making
sure the post are in the correct opening.
110Insert actuator spring over post on valve body.
111Using a flat screw driver compress spring on
actuator bar post.
112Actuator clip, actuator bar and actuator spring
correctly installed.
113Tuck rear of bolt handle assembly under trigger
lock.
114Press bolt handle assembly down and push forward.
115Push bolt nose into the breech on the barrel.
116Push bolt all the way forward. Go to slide 69
for next step to reassemble gun.
