WHAT IS EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY ASSOCIATION?

• European University Association (EUA) is the
  main voice of the higher education community in
  Europe trying to bring all European universities
  together with common objectives
• EUA's mission is to promote the development of a
  coherent system of European higher education and
  research.
• EUA aims to achieve its mission through active
  support and guidance to its members as autonomous
  institutions in enhancing the quality of their
  teaching, learning and research as well as their
  contributions to society.
• Currently EUA has 777 members in 45 countries
  across Europe.

EUA INVOLVEMENT IN BOLOGNA PROCESS

• EUA has been closely involved in the Bologna
  Process since it was conceived, firmly supporting
  the need for a more coherent higher education and
  research system in Europe.
• EUA believes that the full support of Europe's
  higher education institutions is essential to
  achieving the objectives of the Bologna Process.

WHAT IS BOLOGNA PROCESS ?

• The purpose of the Bologna Process (BP) is to
  create the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)
  by harmonizing academic degree standards and
  quality assurance standards throughout Europe.
• Its objectives are to achieve
• Transparency between higher education systems
• Recognition of degrees
• Academic qualification
• Mobility and exchange between institutions
• The Bologna Declaration focuses on
  qualifications and not on content or academic
  degrees.

BOLOGNA PROCESS IMPLEMENTATION

• EAU implements following activities to ensure
  European
• Universities are fully involved at each step of
  the Bologna
• Process (BP)
• Undertaking surveys and reports on the
  implementation of BP
• Development of a project to further define
  Doctoral Programmes
• Providing an Institutional Evaluation Programme
  and the Quality Culture Project, in order to
  provide quality improvements
• Managing a Joint Masters Project, in which
  networks of European Universities working
  together at the Masters level across Europe
• Promoting and monitoring a European Qualification
  Framework across European higher education
  institutions
• European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)
• Diploma Supplement (DS)

WHY DOES EMU CARE?

• EMU is currently a full member of EUA
• EMU has full access to all Membership Services
  provided by EUA
• EMU will be evaluated for Bologna Process in
  December 2006
• EMU seeks worldwide recognition and accreditation
  and through Bologna Process this can be achieved
• EMU seeks to be a reputable research institution
  and, through grants and financial supports from
  European Governmental and private sectors, that
  can achieved

WHY SHOULD EMU IMPLEMENT THE BOLOGNA PROCESS?

• Mobility of graduates around the whole European
  Higher Education Area is only possible if
  recognition of degrees earned is ensured .
• So, European Diploma Supplement and usage of a
  European Credit Transfer System (ECTS or
  compatible) are seen as the main tools for
  transparency.
• Establishing joint programs and offering degrees
  by institutions from different countries is one
  of the Bologna Process goals.

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?

• If you are trying to find a good job after
  graduation then you should care
• If you plan to continue with your higher
  education then you should care
• If you are thinking about studying a semester or
  taking summer school at any of the European
  Universities then you should care
• If you want to say it proudly that you are the
  graduate of EMU, which is a full member of EUA
  and a participant in Bologna process, then you
  should care

EUA EVALUATION PROCESS

• As part of the EUA membership an Institutional
  Self Evaluation and a EUA Team Evaluation will be
  carried out
• The Institutional Self Evaluation which
  includes - Identifying the strength and
  Weaknesses of the University and suggesting
  solutions for the existing problems. (SWOT
  Analysis)
• Ensuring that the Universitys Mission and Goals
  are met
• EUA Team Evaluation in which a team of four EUA
  experts will be visiting EMU campus on the 17th
  December 2006 and then again
• in May 2007.
• The Team Evaluation will be focused on many
  issues including the Self Evaluation Report and
  talking to Management, Staff and Students.

CONCULUSION

• EMU will benefit greatly from being a member of
  EUA and in Joining the Bologna Process.
• Students are the number one beneficiary
• Management, Faculty, and Staff will also benefit
  greatly from the EUA membership
• The community will benefit from EMUs reputation
  and standing in the worlds University league.
