The Cinquain

• A five line poem following a set pattern.
• The Cinquain is based loosely on Japanese Haiku.
• They DO NOT have rhyming words in them
• The Cinquain is all about description.

Structure for Cinquain

• Line 1 one word title
• Line 2 two words that describe the subject of
  the title (adjectives)
• Line 3 three ing words related to the subject
  (usually action words)
• Line 4 4 or 5 words that express your feelings
  about the subject or a phrase about the subject
• Line 5 a synonym for the word in line 1
• Draw a picture symbolizing your subject
