  • Ground and surface water contaminated as a
    result of runoff.
  • 2. Erosion
  • Loss of soil fertility.
  • 3. Energy Intensive
  • Farming machinery uses high amounts of energy.
  • 4. Agro-chemicals create environmental problems.
  • Growing dependence on chemicals creates
    environmental and financial problems.

5
THERE IS A SOLUTION.
YOU!!!
6
Solution 1 Nutrient Management
  • It allows proper use of fertilizers to utilize
    maximum yields.
  • You can control soil fertility allowing you to
    use fertilizers effectively and efficiently.
  • Soil testing allows you to avoid using the wrong
    fertilizers.

Solution 2 Pesticide Management
  • Alternatives to toxic chemicals can be
    economically beneficial.
  • Pesticide use is harmful to people and wildlife.
  • Harmful pesticides reach water sources,
    threatening life and ecosystems.

8
Solution 3 Alternative Land Management
  • No tilling or minimum tilling reduces erosion of
    land.
  • Strip cropping allows for maximum soil efficiency
    and land productivity.
  • Crop rotation and organic fertilizers allows for
    efficient nutrient control.

work to be sent to Penn State
10
Trees were planted to provide a buffer zone to
keep cattle manure from running into the stream.
Trees also help to prevent erosion and clogging
of streams with soil.

Is see the importance of these methods to farming
in the our future
16
I have seen a decline in farming productivity
using traditional practices
17
The methods I plan on employing when I take over
the farm are
18
I think this presentation was persuasive.
19
Prior to this presentation I knew where to get
information on alternative practices.
