Habitat

• The Nene prefers semi-arid waterless country such
  as
• Scrublands,
• Grasslands, and
• Sparsely vegetated slopes

Breeding Nesting Habits

• Breeding Season November thru June
• Location migrates to lowlands to breed
• Nest hollow in ground or down-lined bowl
• Number of eggs 3 6
• Incubation Period 30 days
• Goslings young are able to run as soon as down
  dries, though, flightless for 10 12 weeks.

Why they almost vanished?

• Allowed to be hunted by laws.
• Deforested lowlands.
• Newly introduced predators, such as rats,
  mongooses, wild dogs and cats.

Saving Nene

•  In 1957, the Nene was named the State bird, and
  rescue programs were established.
•  Conservationists captured them and breed them in
  cages.
• The British Nene restoration project kept and
  raised Nene in England.
