• Species Observed Grasshopper

Introductory Slide

• A) The name of the species that I observed was
  the orange winged grasshopper (paradalophora
  phoenicoptera).
• B) I observed the insect on June/19th/2007 from
  637pm-735pm.
• C) The location in which I observed the
  grasshopper was the front steps of my house.
• D) Grass, bushes, mulch and rocks were some
  things found in the orange winged grasshoppers
  habitat. That evening was hot and dry. Trees were
  also another factor in the animals habitat.

• This is one of the first pictures that I took
  of the grasshopper while it was sitting and being
  inactive.

Amazing Side View

• As the creature was still not moving I angled
  the camera to the side and zoomed in on its body.

Face And Body

• The grasshopper moved slightly towards the left
  and I got in front of it to take this full on
  picture of its whole body.

In Perspective

• In the other pictures this invertebrate looks
  huge compared to its background , but here its
  in perspective to everything else.

Into a New Environment

• The grasshopper felt invaded by me towards the
  end of the hour, so it decided to crawl quickly
  underneath my leg into the base of a bush.

Brief Summary

• Grasshoppers can exude a nasty liquid, have a
  vibrant blue color on their inner thighs, go
  through six stages of development, and come in
  many varieties. These were a few facts that I did
  not learn about an orange winged grasshopper by
  just observing it. Although, I did learn some
  details about the insect from its movement and
  appearance. During my experience the invertebrate
  ran, jumped, moved its head, opened its mouth,
  and slightly staggered. The imitation of a snake
  describes the bugs pattern covered body. Orange
  lined its wings in a v-shape from its upper body
  armor to the tip of its posterior. The
  grasshopper seemed as sleek and trim as an
  athlete. Long back legs enable the animal to jump
  and run. Working on and completing this project
  opened my eyes to how much I dont know about the
  animal kingdom.
