2INTRODUCTION
Congratulations-You just landed a job as an
anchor at the WKES station in Lilburn, Georgia!
The station just got word that there are some
wild animals on the loose around Georgia that
must be captured immediately. These animals are
in grave danger until they have all been
found... This is an important job, and since
your specialty is reporting on animals, your boss
came straight to you to help find the animals.
But, you have a small problem you dont know
much about Georgia yet because you just moved
here from another state. You dont want to let
your boss down, so youll have to do some
research before you can find the animals.
3THE TASK
First, you need to figure out what the different
parts of Georgia look like because believe it or
not, they look a lot different from one region to
the next! Then, you need to prepare a 5-minute
newscast that will be videotaped to describe the
animal to your audience. This is the only way you
will be able to find it! The people who watch TV
will be on the lookout once you tell
them. Remember, some of the people who watch
your TV station have never seen your animal. As
crazy as that sounds, you will be in charge of
using very descriptive language to help your
audience understand APPEARANCE,
HABITAT, DIET, PREDATORS OTHER USEFUL
INFO Good luck!
4THE PROCESS DAY 1
Researching Georgia 1. You will be assigned to a
2 person reporting team. This will include the
cameraman and the reporter. 2. You will need to
decide who will be the reporter and who will be
the cameraman. 3. Your first task is to
determine the regions of Georgia. Turn your
packet to the page entitled Regions of Georgia.
You will be using this to label the  regions.
Then, click on the link below
Regions of Georgia 4. As you read about the
different regions of Georgia, use your Regions
of Georgia worksheet to label the regions with a
color-coded map key. 5. Once you have chosen a
color for each region, color them in. This
map will help you to determine where the lost
animals might live. 6. For an example of a
completed map, see the link below
Georgia Region Map with Key 7. If you need
further information about the regions of Georgia,
visit the following website More About
the Regions of Georgia
5THE PROCESS DAY 2-6
Day 2-6 Researching the Animals 8. Look at the
list of animals. Choose 5 animals that you and
your partner would like to research. Red Fox
Squirrel Rattlesnake Black Bear
Beaver Coyote Loggerhead Turtle
Raccoon Great Horned Owl 9. Find the five
blank worksheets in your packet that have
questions about animals and spaces to answer
them. 10. Then, you should spend each day
answering questions about a different animal.
This will last for 5 days. 11. Start with the
first website listed by the animal, and see how
many questions you can answer. 12. Move to the
next website once you have answered all the
questions you can. Continue until you have read
all of the websites. 13. Keep reading the
websites even after you think you have answered
all of the questions! You will continue to find
interesting facts about your animal that might
help the television viewers to spot the animal!
6CREATING YOUR REPORT DAY 7
14. You are only going to be reporting on one
animal. So you and your partner need to choose
the animal that you know the most about to report
on. 15. Each group will be reporting on
different animals, so be sure you sign up when
your teacher asks you which animal you would
like! 16. Spend your time today gathering your
information into a report that you can say in
five minutes. Remember, descriptive language is
super-important! Your viewers really need to find
these animals. 17. This is the order you should
follow when giving your news report Part 1
Introduce yourself and what animal you are trying
to find. Part 2 Describe how the animal looks
with as much detail as you can. Part 3 Tell the
viewer where the animal lives, what its home
looks like, what the animal eats, and what its
predators are. Part 4 Explain why the viewers
need to find the animal (use your
imagination!). Part 5 Tell the viewers who to
contact if they find the animal (you can make
this up). 18. You can use the dictionary or
thesaurus links below to help you find creative
words to use. Merriam-Webster Online
Dictionary Thesaurus.com
7CALLING ALL REPORTERS! DAY 8
- 20. Each group will report on a loose Georgia
animal today. - 21. You and your partner will be posing as
television viewers while other groups report. - 22. Remember that you can write down any
questions you have about other reporters
presentations. You will have a chance to ask the
news anchor (your teacher) once the report is
over.

19CONCLUSION
You learned so much in this activity! Now you
know how it would feel to be a news reporter
every day, and to have the spotlight always
shining on you. The Georgia regions are now a
part of your vocabulary! Can you picture what
each region looks like in your head? You know
about several different animals that are part of
Georgias habitat. How many animals can you name
that live in each region? Why do you think some
animals cannot live in other regions?

21TEACHER RESOURCES INTRODUCTION
Welcome to our WebQuest on Georgia Regions and
Animals! We created Animal Rescue as a project
for a course on incorporating technology in the
classroom. This is an interactive lesson that
incorporates geography, animal research,
literature and a great deal of creativity. Most
of this lesson involves research that will be
conducted through the Internet. Students will be
directed to sites that contain information on the
regions of Georgia and various animals that live
in that area. Students will be instructed to
work in group of two. These groups should be
constructed by the teacher. Each group consists
of a cameraman and a reporter and report
information on just one animal that is
missing. The group must first conduct
research on Georgia before moving into research
on 5 missing animals. Over the course of this
project, students will narrow their research to
just one animal and present a television new
report to the class describing their animal.

of this project the students will have completed
the following standards Life Science S3L1.
Students will investigate the habitats of
different organisms and the dependence of
organisms on their habitat. a. Differentiate
between habitats of Georgia (mountains,
marsh/swamp, coast, Piedmont, Atlantic Ocean) and
the organisms that live there. c. Identify
features of animals that allow them to live and
thrive in different regions of Georgia.
