1929 Shotgun Cheatems Last Night Above Ground
  • In this chapter, when Joey and Mary Alice visit,
    they find that Shotgun Cheatem has died.
  • The only thing they know about him is that he was
    poor and didnt have a house.
  • When the reporter comes to town and Grandma
    starts telling lies about Shotgun, Joey and Mary
    Alice get worried.
  • Then Grandma starts talking about having a
    visitation at her house, and Joey and Mary Alice
    dont like it.
  • At the visitation Grandma sees the tomcat go in
    the casket. When the audience looks and thinks
    Shotgun is alive, Grandma runs and gets the
    shotgun and shoots his dead body. The reporter
    was scared away and was never heard of again.

1930 Mouse in the Milk
  • In this chapter Grandma is determined to frame
    the Cowgill boys for putting mice in her milk
  • The Cowgills are doing bad things in the month
    of July and since they deliver her milk shes
    going catch them
  • She set a trap for the Cowgills and she caught
    them. She had Joey go get their parents which
    raced back to Grandmas house to see their kids
    held at gunpoint.
  • She showed their daddy the mouse in the milk,
    which she did and they got their butts whipped.

1931 One Woman Crime Wave
  • In this chapter, Grandma breaks the law more than
    the law expected.
  • First, she takes Joey and Mary Alice back in the
    fields of the county. They come to a fence which
    says, NO TRESSPASSING.
  • They climb under anyway. The three then get in a
    boat and go down the river catching catfish.
  • They past the sheriff and his drunk deputies
    which are singing half naked.
  • Then they come to Aunt Puss Chapmans and feed
    her catfish.
  • When the three get back home they feed the
    drifters beer and fish as the sheriff drives them
    out of the town

1932 Day of Judgment
  • Grandma competes in the Fruit Pies Cobblers
    competition at the fair.
  • She doesnt win the blue ribbon, but gets one and
    lies to the pilot Barnie Buchanan so Joey can
    ride in an airplane for free.
  • Joey finds out that Grandma had it all planned
    out from the time Mrs. Wiedenbach convinced her
    to compete

1933 The Phantom Brakeman
  • In this story, Miz Eubanks tries to keep her
    daughter under her control.
  • Mary Alice hides Vandalia Eubanks in Grandmas
    house where she secretly dates Junior Stubbs.
  • Miz Eubanks doesnt want Vandalia to leave on the
    train and the Stubbs dont want Junior dating
    her.
  • Joey dresses up as the ghostly brakeman to stop
    the train and Vandalia and Junior climb on
    unnoticed.

1934 Things with Wings
  • In this story Ray Veech shows Joey how to drive
    at the price of 2.
  • Joey and Mary Alice clean out the attic of old
    things to take to the rummage sale at the church.
  • At the rummage sale, people notice initials in a
    hat and quilt that Grandma had brought to the
    sale.
  • The initials on the quilt MTL stood for Mary Todd
    Lincoln, and the initials in the hat AB stood for
    Abraham Lincoln. Then everybody wanted to buy
    those.
  • When Grandma tells them she found them at Effie
    Wilcoxs house they give Effies house back to
    her.

1935 Centennial Summer
  • In this story, Joey and Mary Alice find that they
    have to dress up like the old days.
  • They dont like, but they do it anyway.
  • At the talent contest Mary Alice and Ray Veech
    dance and win.
  • In the parade Grandma claims that Uncle Grady
    Griswold is the oldest settler in the community.
  • Uncle Grady Griswold and the bankers wifes
    daddy got in a fight of who was the best and most
    important fighter in a war.
  • That was the last time Joey ever came back to
    Grandmas.

1942 Troop Train
  • Joey joins the army
  • On the train towards boot camp he passes through
    Grandmas town
  • He sees her and she waves, he waves back

My Opinion on the Story
  • The book was OK. I dont like reading at all, but
    this kind of book makes it a little worse. To me
    the book was not to funny and boring.
