Title: Pr
1The PILPS-C1 experiment update
Reminder on the project
Comparison of both biophysical and
biogeochemical flux from Different types of
models with observations at one EUROFLUX
site Loobos (coniferous forest).
- Simulation proposed
- equilibrium models are run until equilibrium
- With the two years of forcing
- 100 years runs models run the whole period of
- The plantation (100 year) knowing that there was
- no carbon at the beginning
- free runs no information on site is provided
- (except soil characteristics)
- constrained runs ancillary data are provided
- To calibrate the models
? 4 simulations possible
2The participants of the project
3What has been done last year
free runs (both equilibrium and 100 years)
Example of results from the equilibrium
runs Index of agreement for all models
4Example of results from the 100 years simulation
5What has been decided at the Gif workshop?
- Completion of the first phase of the project
- Complete the simulations set with constrained
runs.
- Redaction of 2 papers with all the
participants - have been scheduled
- 1/ First with the equilibrium runs that include
- Models with and without carbon
- 2/ Second with the 100 years simulation.
2. Preparation of a second phase
6What have been done this year
Ancillary data from the site was collected and
given to participants Completion of simulations
for constrained run with calibrated are now
available Most of the participant. The analysis
of these new simulation will begin soon Hope to
have a first draft of the first paper by the end
of the year.
For next year Hope to have the submission of
the two papers.
7The future of PILPS Carbon
As it was decided at Tucson last year, decision
for a second phase of the project will be done
after completion of the first phase .. So
probably at the next panel meeting ?
- What have been proposed
- Extend the study to more site which include
different - vvegetation types (more than 30 sites available)
- How the inter-biomes variability compare with
- the inter-models variability ?
- What biomes are correctly/not correctly
simulated ?. - It will be very interesting to include year 2003
available for most - of European sites with the extreme drought of The
European - summer
- Test of model response to high hydric stress and
high - Temperature (in particular biomes show very
different responses) - Seems to be a good way to test how models
simulate - vegetation response to climate similar to those
expected by - the end of the century !
