Facts
The Bundu people of Zambia believe the Zambezi
River has a spirit called Nyami Nyami. This
spirit brings them water to grow crops and fish
to eat so they call the river "the river of life!
  • The first European to see Victoria Falls was
David Livingstone on 17 November 1855. He had
been told about the falls before he reached them
from upriver and paddled across to a small island
that now has the name Livingstone Island. He had
previously been impressed by the Ngonye Falls
further upstream, but found the new falls much
more impressive, and gave them their English name
    in honour of Queen Victoria.

English is the actual language along the banks of
the Zambezi. Though the different tribes speak
more than 70 other languages.
The climate along the river is tropical and the
rainy season lasts from October through April.
