7FORMATTING YOUR SCREEN
This is the first screen that appears when
Powerpoint is opened. Click the BLANK
PRESENTATION For Image Powerpoint you dont
want any templates or pre-designed color schemes,
but you do want a solid, neutral background
8YOU WANT BOTH A BLANK PRESENTATION AND A BLANK
LAYOUT
Select a blank layout
9FORMATTING THE BACKGROUND
- A White screen does not display
- images to the best advantage.
- Try black, charcoal gray, dark burgundy, etc.
- To change the background color
- 1. Highlight the first slide icon in OUTLINE mode
- 2. Select the FORMAT function in the tool bar,
then BACKGROUND - 3. Under BACKGROUND FILL, click the small arrow

- Do this many times, so you have numerous blank
screens on which to insert or drag your images
11INSERTING IMAGES FROM A FILE
Use the INSERT icon to search for a file on
either a disk or on the desktop
Select a file image (usually a .jpg file) and
select INSERT
12DRAGGING THE IMAGE
BOTH MAC AND PC USERS CAN DRAG IMAGES FROM THE
WEB DIRECTLY ONTO A POWERPOINT SCREEN THIS SAVES
TIME, BUT MAY LESSEN IMAGE QUALITY. ITS USUALLY
BETTER TO SAVE A GOOD IMAGE TO A FILE AND THEN
INSERT IT.
PC USERS CAN ALSO USE INSERT- PICTURE- NEW PHOTO
ALBUM THIS BRINGS IN A WHOLE FOLDER OF IMAGES,
SIZE THEM, AND PLACE EACH ONE ON A BLANK SCREEN.
(MAC USERS NEED AN ADDITIONAL PIECE OF SOFTWARE,
IView, TO DO THIS www.iview-multimedia.com ).

the - brightness icon. Click to achieve desired

14WHEN NOT TO MODIFY SLIDES
- You can always go smaller, but dont make small
web images bigger than their original size! Try
for images that are at least 600-800 pixels on
the long side. - The Exception to this is that very large images
will sometimes be small when inserted into
Powerpoint, and will need to be expanded. - Avoid using large tiff files. High quality jpgs
are safer, less likely to freeze your
presentation.
15INSERTING COMPARISONS
- Inserting two images on one screen
Tatlin, Monument to 3rd International, 1919-20
Tatlin, Comparison, Cranes in Leningrad Harbor
16CREATING TEXT BOXES
NOVGOROD SCHOOL, Icon of St. George, Early 14th
century, Panel, Russian Museum, Leningrad
- Avoid using fancy or unusual fonts. Stick with
basic ones that are likely to be on all computers
17TEXT BOXES
- Click on the TEXT BOX icon
- Move the cursor to the desired location of the
text box - Click the left button on the mouse to activate
the draw mechanism, move the cursor to create a
text box on your screen, and start typing. The
box will expand as you type. - The text box size can be changed easily by
clicking on and then dragging the square boxes
that appear around the text box. - To change the font, character size, or color use
the menu bar icons at the top of the Powerpoint
screen. These function similarly to WORD
commands.
18PRESENTING YOUR LECTURE
- There are many slide show options.
- To view your Powerpoint seminar project or paper
select the SLIDE SHOW option from the menu bar at
the top of the screen - You may change the slides manually or select a

automatically. Manual transitions are
recommended. - To display the Powerpoint presentation to an

The slide presentation will appear in full view
on your computer screen. To manually advance the
slides, click the left button on your mouse. The
