- Interrupt the transmission of Wild Polio by Dec
2007 - Contribute to an increase in immunization

18Strategic planning/Initiatives
- State level meeting with Ulama under the
Chairmanship of the State Deputy Governor with
over 2000 mallams mobilised and are now
advocating for PEI. - Working with Miyetti Allah Association in
identifying, mobilising and immunising the
Nomads/Fulanis. In the lasts 2 rounds of IPDs
47,554 fulanis were immunised. - Working with Pan Disabled Ass. Of Nig. To show
case persons afflicted by Polio and reducing non
compliance. 24 polio afflicted persons resolved
850 cases of non compliance in last IPDs. - Child adoption. A class 5 pupil brings a child
she/he has adopted for OPV immunization with 92
success. - Collaboration with State Environmental Protection
Agency as Contaminated Environment is a major
source of transmission of WPV.

- Mobilization in-between rounds
- H 2 H mobilization by FOMWAN,
- TBAs engagement in detecting and referral of
zero dose. - 722 Town announcers disseminated information
about IPDs. - Various Radio panel discussion program and
broadcasting - Peer to peer education by Teachers of SUBEB on
OPV safety with about 1,000 teachers mobilised.

- Over coming non compliance
- among Elite and Health workers
- OPV as a community felt need
- Fatigue
- Ensuring sustained ownership by LGAs and
communities. - Reaching the hard to reach areas.
- Ensuring accountability and transparency in mgt
of resources - Continuous analysis and use of LGA data of
previous rounds to drive SM activities at LGA
level - Translation of micro plan data in concrete action
(e.g. need for PA systems etc) because of limited
resources
21Way forward
- Continue targeted dialogue with elites and
opinion leaders. - Sensitization of clinicians in all facilities.
- Increased partnership with Miyetti, FOMWAN,
SUBEB, PANDAN. - Advocacy to governments for increased
participation. - Increased Radio panel discussion with a cross
section of communities. - Focused dialogue with NC families and
communities.

- HRH, Alhaji, Dr Muhammadu Kabir Usman, the Emir
of Katsina, at a gathering for the sallah
Festival on 21 Oct 2006, estimated at more than
200,000 persons, called on parents to allow their
children to be immunized.
