Title: This term Year 2
1St Mary's C.E School
Welcome to East Grinstead
This term Year 2s topic is Where we Live. We
have been looking at where our homes are, places
in West Sussex, our environment and we have been
exploring plants and animals that share our
habitat.

Wakehurst Place
To help us learn more about Plants we spent the
day at Wakehurst Place. We saw bees pollinating,
plants growing and lots more
12We looked carefully at some of the foods we eat
and we decided which part of a plant they were
from was it the stem, the leaves, the fruit or
even the roots! Afterwards we looked at the
artist Arcrimboldo who made faces out of food and
then we got creative and tried it too! What do
you think?

Review
- What we did
- We looked at maps on the internet and maps from
books, we drew our own maps and labelled our
school and our houses we studied plants and mini
beasts. We designed a caterpillar and a snail for
the animation, we made animation plans for the
filming, we made scenery and props for our
animation and puppet play, we used digi blue
cameras to film our animation .We did sketches of
plants and mini beasts in paint and on paper , we
wrote poems about mini beasts and plants, we
visited Wakehurst Place and looked at the work of
Arcrimboldo. - What problems were overcome
- Making the setting for the animation was tricky
as we had to hide the stem of the plant until it
was needed. Then the seed kept falling down and
rolling away. The computer crashed half way
through. The heads of the animals in the
animation needed wire because they wouldnt turn
easily. When we made the scenery the glue stuck
to our fingers. Max spoke half way through the
filming of the puppet play and interrupted the
show. The legs on the spider hand puppet kept
falling off.
