• Research
• My main project was working with lying behavior
  in dairy cattle. The goal was to find a
  correlation with lying behavior and early
  detection of lameness and other diseases.
• -I performed tasks such as analyzing data,
  putting on/taking off of data loggers, observing
  behavior, and working with milk samples from the
  robotic milkers. (Fig. 4)
• I was also involved in two side projects working
  with mink.
• I worked on the follow up project that a student
  from the previous summer. It looked at the
  correlation between diet and mammary gland size.
• -I was involved in the capturing, weighing,
  and releasing of the animals. I also aided with
  the removal, weighing, and measuring of the
  mammary glands, the data collection, and the data
  analysis. (Fig. 5)
• 2) My first side project stimulated my interest
  in a species I knew little about. I became
  involved in another mink research project that
  dealt with the ability of the mink kits to
  maintain their body temperatures when separated
  from their mother. (Fig. 6)
• -I recorded data from thermal videos of the mink
  kits when separated from the mother.
• -To help internationalize the Animal Sciences
  Department at the University of Illinois, I
  obtained information on the sociological
  perspective of performing these research projects
  through discussions with the scientists and
  reading supplemental material. We were also
  required to take ANSC199, create a learning
  module, and present it to other classes in the
  department.
