The Criminal Records Register

• is a centrally run register of all criminal
  convictions
• is administered by the office of criminal records
  at the Vienna Federal Police Directorate
• The Criminal Records Register contains
• legally valid convictions by Austrian criminal
  courts
• legally valid convictions of Austrian citizens
  and persons having in Austria their place of
  residence or habitual abode, by foreign courts
• all decisions of national or foreign courts,
  referring to those convictions

The Criminal Records Certificate

• The Criminal Records Certificate (previously
  called attestation of repute/ guidance / morals)
  gives information on convictions of a person,
  entered into the criminal records register or,
  that no such conviction is contained in the
  criminal records register.
• For many activities and professions (e.g.
  admittance to a security or guarding enterprise),
  presentation of a most recent Criminal Records
  Certificate, usually not older than three months
  is required.
