Inside this issue
Its Raining Snow?
On November 23, Maycomb County had a real
surprise. It started snowing! It hadnt snowed
since 1885. It didnt just sprinkle down flakes
from the sky, it came pounding down. Everything
was white as a clean sheet of paper. The
snow came down so hard that without any warning
the schools were closed the next day. Kids were
building snowmen and having snowball fights, on
their first day, ever off.
Local Home Burns to Ground
- Local Maycomb resident, Maudie Atkinson was
- about to go to bed last night, when her house
suddenly - burst into flames. The fire attracted a huge
crowd of - neighbors, fire trucks, and firemen.
- According to the Maycomb County Fire Department
- the fire was caused by a wood burning stove.
Apparently, - Maudie Atkinson was keeping herself warm due to
the - surprising snowstorm.
- After Maudie Atkinson was safely outside of her
- house, friend and neighbor, Mr. Avery climbed
inside a - window of the burning house to retrieve her
furniture. He - started emptying furniture out of the house
successfully, - until something went terribly wrong. Mr. Avery
got stuck - in the window when he was trying to take out a
wooden - rocking chair. Everyone started yelling at him
to get out, - and make it quick. He ended up getting out
safely, but he - couldnt manage to get the rocking chair out.
