  • It was invented by Johan Vaaler in 1866
  • patented in 1899 and 1901
  • Johan Vaaler is the brain behind the modern
    paper clip
  • The modern version of paper clip is owned and
    patented by Gem Manufact. C.

  • During World War II and the German occupation of
    Norway, Norwegians were prohibited from wearing
    buttons imprinted with their king's initials.
    Thus, Norwegians wore paper clips to show
    patriotism. They were a fitting symbol for subtle
    opposition against the Germans- a Norwegian
    invention intended to BIND TOGETHER. The paper
    clip represented solidarity as the Norwegians
    were bound together protecting their country!
