• The Orangutan Language Project (OLP) explores the
  ability of orangutans to use symbols and syntax
  to express their thoughts. Orangutans are
  learning to use a symbol-based language on a
  computer screen. The symbols are abstract and
  look nothing like what they represent.
• So far, the orangutans have built up a vocabulary
  that includes food, proper names of people and
  orangutans, verbs, adjectives, and Arabic
  numbers. The next step will be to introduce
  syntax, which will allow orangutans to form
  complete sentences.
