8CIDAI - OBJECTIVES
- To provide an improved service to users
- To reduce costs (CIDAI is an official CRINE
project) - Migration towards paperless operations
- To achieve common standards in data quality and
accessibility
9The CIDAI Concept...

19THE PROGRESS
Began with an idea!
Form a group and start a company!
Sign a contract
While designing, building and populating
the database.
20Where do we start?????
Begin with the alphabet of CDA A Amerada Hess,
Amoco (digital wells) B BP (seismic) C Conoco
(hard copy) D DTI (standards) s Shell
(steering group) Together turning the vision
into reality!

Proprietary
- Start-Up database is a merger of Conocos,
Shells and BPs.
24Raw Well Log Data - Status
HIGHLIGHTS
- System went live in March 1996
- 70 of the legacy data loaded from B.Gas,
Conoco, Shell, BPs databases - Data can be downloaded in RP66, LIS and LAS
formats - Data selections can be downloaded eg. data over
a depth range - No longer have to send digital data to the DTI
- Raw well log data automatically available after
5 1/2 years - Standards have been agreed
- IRA Bomb tested our disaster recovery procedures
for us!
BUT....
- Not all of the companies are connected yet -
70 are! - Most of the data is in the archive database and
not immediately on-line - We still have to check all our well data as part
of the quality checking process - Although we get raw well log data, its
composited data most users want
25Value - Added Well Log Data
- Erico and Robertsons both members of CDA
- CDA paid for their legacy value-added data to
be loaded - Robertsons have loaded all their composited
legacy data - Erico are in the process of loading the next
release of data - Companies are beginning to arrange for their
value added data to be loaded - CDA have defined a basic standard for well log
joining which includes an audit trail
ISSUES
- Data is being prepared in LIS TIF format but if
we can convert to Geoshare, it costs 50
less to be loaded. (Load to Openworks and
convert?) - Do we have audit trails anywhere for wells we
have composited in-house?
26DEFINITION OF HARDCOPY
- All wireline, composite, mud and velocity logs
that are on sepia, film or paper. - Reports. (eg. geochemical, final well, core
reports) - Core samples will be addressed later.
27Hard Copy Well Data - Status
- Conoco are driving the hard copy stage of
CIDAI - Took a year to agree on how to address well log
hard copy data - Business Case easy to define for CDA as a
whole, but difficult for each company to
assess individually (different working
practices, preferences, contract prices and a
lack of people who understand the whole arena
of data management and in particular what it
costs) - Required DTI agreement and cooperation
- Paras hired as a consultant to assist in the EC
tendering process - Expect the proposed solution to begin
implementation 4th Qtr 1997
SOLUTION
- One master dataset of hard copy data will be
catalogued and stored (at the DTI, store in
Edinburgh) - Logs and Reports will be scanned to compile the
second dataset - Most recent wells will be scanned first
- Migrating to a paperless environment
