• Stretched beaver fur
• Very valuable
• Soft and shiny
• Two otter skins worth one pelts
• One moose worth two pelts
• Hudson Bay blanket worth six pelts
• Waterproof
• So valuable that London picked up the hairs that
  fell on the floor

• Trading for other goods
• Exchange between Europeans and Natives
• Hats were for fashion
• Beaver was also used for meat
• Used for making felt

• Made from the thick undercoat of the beaver
• Stretched out fur
• Waterproof
• Soft and shiny

How did it Assist the Fur Trade?

• The fur was in demand with the Europeans
• They wore it for fashion
• It helped the Natives get weapons and other
  things they needed
• HBC earned lots of money

Is it Still in use Today?

• People still trade furs for goods
• Inuit's use them for trade
• The trading stopped when beavers became scarce
• Hudsons Bay Company quit trading in 1889
• Silk hats took over beaver hats
