Title: Oregon Trail

1
Oregon Trail
  • The pioneers crossed the Oregon Trail in search
of new land and a better way of life.
  • The Oregon trail was a difficult trail to be on,
    it had many dangerous obstacles.

2
The Jumping Off Point
  • The jumping off point was were immigrants would
gather and make up wagon trains. It was almost
like a long picnic because everyone used such
    good manners.

3
The Route West
  • The route west was one of the most difficult
trail to follow back in the 1800s. They had to go
over high mountains with Conestoga wagons which
were very difficult to travel in. They had to
travel 2,000 miles. If they didnt travel at
least 20 miles a day they got off track.

4
Conestoga Wagons
  • Conestoga wagons were the common wagons that you
would see on the trail. Other wagons that they
    used were farm wagons.
  • They were usually 10 feet long and 5 feet wide so
there wasnt very much room to put things in.

5
Supplies
  • Pioneers took lots of food, cooking tools, and
    animals.
  • They usually hooked oxen to pull them and the
heavy supplies. They also took oxen because they
could live off the land and go on in better than
    any other animal.

6
Clothing
  • Men wore overalls and a shirt. They rarely wore
    shoes.
  • Women wore dresses with aprons without shoes.
  • Most of them were to poor for shoes because only
    the rich people wore shoes.

7
Hunting and Food
  • Most pioneers bought food and some supplies in
    Independence.
  • When meat got bad they had to throw it out. When
they ran out of meat they hunted buffalo.

8
Dangers
  • Along the trail there were many problems such as
bad weather, diseases, river crossings, walking,
animals, Indian tribes, and trying to as far as
    they could each day.
