Why I Chose This Topic

• I was affected by how children were treated.
• To show that children have more opportunities
  today education, freedom of speech, and they
  have the chance to be children

Key Points of Topic

• During the Industrial Revolution children had to
  work in factories, mills, mines, and had
  dangerous jobs.

• Children had to do these jobs because the
  Industrial Revolution created a need for cheap,
  controllable labor.
• Children worked as shrimp pickers, oyster
  hackers, factory workers, cotton pickers, miners,
  and newspaper salesmen.

• Children were treated unfairly. They were abused
  on the job, sometimes losing their lives. They
  worked from early morning to sunset without
  breaks.

• To fight against child labor, a woman named
  Mother Jones created The Childrens March. During
  this march, children went on strike to fight for
  their rights.

• Lewis Hines was a photographer who took pictures
  of children at work. His photos showed us the
  harshness of child labor.

Conclusion

• Through what America learned concerning child
  labor during the Industrial Revolution, children
  today have more opportunities and rights to a
  safe and secure childhood.
