Title: THE PEREGRINE FALCONS OF
1THE PEREGRINE FALCONS OF KAOHSIUNG CITY,

2The ledge where the Peregrine Falcons stay
My home
3The birds could have been there for several
months, but I did not notice until one day in
March 2006, when Blackie caught prey and landed
on a small ledge high on a 22-storey building.
This photo shows Whitey in the air between that
building and my home while Blackie is
eating. They seem a pair. One is darker, called
Blackie The other looks more graceful and white,
called Whitey.
4I realize they are falcons because they look like
the bird on the Taiwan Air Force pilots patch,
F16 Fighting Falcons.
5Blackie is not willing to share the pigeon with
Whitey.
6Whitey has no chance to approach the prey. He has
nothing to do but frequently fly out and back to
the ledge.
7Next morning, I did not see them. Yet a carcass
was found above the ledge.
8I thought they were gone. This was what I saw
when I retuned from my office. This was a typical
scene last year (March/2006). They would stay
there for hours and do nothing. (This winter
since Oct/2006 they still stand in same place,
doing nothing. The only difference is that now,
in February 2007, they stand closer to each other
on the upper ledge where Whitey is shown this
photo.)
9This is another carcass. It doesnt look like a
pigeon.
10I guessed they are Peregrine Falcons, but I dont
know why they stayed in Kaohsiung. This
PowerPoint was made in March 2006.
