  • COBUA Nomination Voting
  • Voting will open April 15, 2006 at www.cobua.com.
  • Voting will take place on the website
  • Class 1 umpires may vote for a maximum of 30
    people and a minimum of 1.
  • Voting will close on May 15, 2006
  • Top 30 vote recipients will be nominated by the
    COBUA for tournament selection.

Slide Rule Interpretation
  • Slide Rule Interpretation from last weeks
    meeting.
  • Kim Lance talked to Kyle McNeely last week for
    the NF interpretation
  • A runner who has made contact with the fielder on
    or before the base and then slides beyond the
    base has not violated the slide rule. The
    position of the fielder when contact is made is
    the important factor.

  • General Principals
  • Your uniform says a lot about who you are and
    gives everyone that first impression.
  • Your uniform should match your partners.
  • Your uniform is your professional identity.
  • Look professional and act professional from the
    time you arrive until the time you leave.

  • Clean your shoes before you walk on the field
  • Polish
  • Cleaning solution
  • Keep extra Rag and a brush in your car
  • Clean the mud off the bottoms after that muddy
    game

  • Heather Gray Pants
  • Press your pants
  • Have them Hemmed wearing your plate/base shoes
  • Wash them!
  • Once they have turned colors donate them to
    charity!
  • Squeezing this years ass into last years pants is
    not acceptable.
  • BUY NEW ONES if they dont fit.

  • Shirts
  • OHSAA only allows navy blue shirts with red,
    white and blue trim.
  • OHSAA Logo
  • Long Sleeve or Short Sleeve is permissible
  • Keep them tucked in
  • If it doesnt fit anymore, get new shirts!
  • Hang up your shirts and wash them!

  • Jackets
  • Try to match the best you can.
  • Jackets should be Navy blue with Red, white, and
    blue trim
  • Can be tucked or untucked, partners should match.
  • If Plate umpire chooses to not wear a jacket,
    Base umpire still has the option to wear jacket.
  • If Plate umpire wears a jacket, the base umpire
    wears a jacket.

  • Must be Red
  • Should not extend below sleeves on your short
    sleeve shirt

  • Official Baseball Rules (OBR) Vs National
    Federation Rules (NF) Major Highlights
  • Legal Bat
  • Most youth leagues and summer leagues have their
    own rule on this. Check with your local league
  • Intentional Base on Balls
  • NF allows you to award 1st base without a pitch
    and the ball is dead
  • OBR requires you to pitch and the ball remains
    alive

  • NF Rule 2-32, 8-4-2b, c, d, e, f
  • OBR no rule, however, most youth leagues and
    amateur leagues have adopted this rule
  • Re-entry of Starters

  • NF Rule 3-1-4 Designated Hitter can bat for
    anyone in the line up
  • OBR Rule 6.10b Designated Hitter can only bat
    for the pitcher (again check with your league)

  • Obstruction shall be called, warning issued.
    Second offense is ejectable.

  • Discourage this in amateur baseball, although
    there is no playing rule to prevent this in the
    summer time, it can be dangerous and
    unsportsmanlike

    inning requires his removal

Game Day Procedures (review)
  • Email Schools one week before contest
  • If weather is questionable, call school before
    leaving for the site.
  • Try to call before 230 and try to catch the AD.
  • Make sure they have your contact info, including
    cell phone, so they can get ahold of you

  • Make contact with your partner at least the day
    before to find out where you are parking and who
    is doing what.
  • Check the website weekly to make sure your
    game/partner was not changed
  • Arrive at the site no later than 30 minutes
    before game time
  • Let Home coach or administrator know that you are
    there
