2Horace the Hare was hurrying up the hill to his
hole. It was Halloween and he hoped that he had
enough time to get ready to go Trick-or-Treating.
3 Horace hopped into his house. He hung his
hat, covered with hearts, on the hook in the
hallway.
4He then hopped into the kitchen and called,
Hello, to Harry the Hedgehog, who had come over
to fix hamburgers for their supper.
5 Harry, said Horace, Im so hungry that I
can eat a huge hamburger! Ill be happy to
heat one up for you, replied Harry. Do you
want hay on it?
6Heck yes, said Horace. While you heat up the
hamburgers I have to put some of my toys
away. Maybe I should just hide them in the hall
closet.
7Horace had a bad habit of not putting his toys
away properly. Lying on the floor near the
hearth were his horn, his hobby horse, his
helicopter, and his harmonica.
8 Harry said, Horace, it may seem harder, but put
them away in the toy box near the honey pot.
9Halfway through their meal, Horace and Harry
heard a terrible howl! Was it a hobgoblin out to
haunt on this Halloween night?
10No, it was only their hairy friend, Hubert, who
had hurt his hoof on the hammer that Horace had
left outside his house. Poor Hubert!
