Physical Characteristics

• An Atlantic Puffin has a tuxedo of black and
  white feathers. It has an orange, black and
  yellow beak. They are between 10 and 16 tall.
  They are warm blooded animals that love to swim!

Habitat of a Puffin

• Puffins mainly live in the water, but they nest
  on land for about five weeks, or until the
  puffling hatches. They nest on islands along the
  northern coast of the Atlantic Ocean. They live
  in puffin colonies where they catch fish and
  swim.

Behavior of a Puffin

• These puffins are Atlantic Puffins, so they dont
  have to migrate or hibernate because they have
  warm feathers. During the warm seasons, these
  puffins nest and wait patiently for their eggs to
  hatch.

• These puffins have a parasitism relationship.
  This relationship happens when fleas get in the
  puffins feathers.

• Young puffins are prey to Snowy Owls.
• Gulls, Ravens, Eagles, and Snowy Owls are all
  predators to puffins.
• A puffin can swim under the water to protect
  itself from predators.

• A puffin has webbed feet that enables itself to
  swim and dive in the water.
• They also have wings that enables it to fly.
• They use their webbed feet as a shovel to dig
  in its nest.
• They also have a sharp beak to enable it to make
  the nest bigger and wider.

How a Puffin Gets Its Energy

• A puffin eats squid and fish. It also gets its
  energy by plants and water.

Food Chain of a Puffin
The hunter hunts the snowy owl and the gulls, who
eat the puffin that eats seaweed and fish, who
get nutrients from the sun and rain.

• Puffins dont chew their food. They swallow their
  food whole and alive.
• A puffin can hold about 60 small fish in its
  beak.
• Adult puffins can live up to 25 years old.
• Adult puffins can fly up to 55 miles per hour.
