Title: Imitative Learning by Birds

1
Imitative Learning by Birds
Imitation is a term that generally has been
reserved for behavioral matching that cannot be
accounted for by simpler species-predisposed,
motivational, or learning mechanisms. When
imitation occurs in humans it has been attributed
to the ability to take the perspective of others
(e.g., theory of mind). Can a species as
different from humans as Japanese quail imitate?
If they can, does this mean that they have the
ability to take the perspective of others?
