What is the Problem?
  • Two most common problems
  • Broken cord
  • Broken cord retainer that allow string to retract
    into shade
  • Caused by TENSION
  • Need just enough tension to keep blinds in place
    and not allow the shade to rattle against the
    window when traveling

Repair Steps
  • Remove Day/Night Shade
  • Take Apart
  • Restring and Assemble
  • Install Day/Night Shade and Adjust Tension
  • Cord Patterns

Remove Day/Night Shade
  • Unscrew both cord retainers
  • Pull lower portion of shade out of valance
  • Tilt bottom rail to clear valance

  • Disconnect head rail from top of window box
  • Held in place by screws through the head rail

  • Use long Phillips head screwdriver
  • On sliding windows some screws may be easier to
    reach from outside

Take Apart
  • Remove head rail end caps
  • Keep all parts in a container

  • Carefully remove middle rail end caps then bottom
    rail end caps

  • Completely remove bottom rail
  • Disconnect cord from cord retainer if necessary
  • Slide bottom portion off bottom rail

  • Slide head rail off
  • Note spring or springs within top tail

  • Make a template of the cord pattern

  • Separate center rail and remove all cords

  • Inspect bushings where cord passes through rails
  • Some manufacturers use plastic bushings that wear
    through. Replace if necessary

Restring and Assemble
  • Connect cords to spring(s)
  • Secure spring(s) with tape

  • Using correct pattern, feed cord through top
    shade, assemble head rail, attach head rail end
    caps

  • Using correct pattern, feed cord through lower
    portion of shade and bottom rail end caps

  • Slide bottom rail together and attach end caps

  • Assemble middle rail and end caps
  • Secure cord to cord retainer

Install and Adjust Tension
  • Reattach head rail to window box
  • Take up slake and attach cord retainers
  • Rotate cord retainer for proper tension, then
    tighten screw
