1
Life In The Outdoor Classroom
  • A slideshow by
  • L.B and D.H.

2
Focusing Question
  • Which species are or are not adapted to the pond
habitat at the V.U.E.S Outdoor Classroom?

3
Garter Snake
  • Garter Snakes prefer habitats such as meadows,
    marshes, woodlands, and hillsides.
  • They prefer moist, grassy environments.
  • Garter Snakes are often found near water such as
    ponds, lakes, ditches, and streams.
  • Garter Snakes live under rocks, logs, debris, and
    boards.
  • Garter Snakes are well adapted to the
    environment at V.U.E.S outdoor classroom.

4
Snapping Turtles
  • Snapping Turtles live in fresh or brackish water.
  • Snapping Turtles prefer water with muddy bottoms
and lots of vegetation so they can hide more
    easily.
  • Snapping Turtles need sandy soil on the bank so
    they can lay their eggs.
  • Snapping Turtles are well adapted to
    the V.U.E.S outdoor classroom.

5
Horned Rattle Snakes
  • The Horned Rattle Snake is not well adapted to
the pond habitat at V.U.E.S because they are
often found in arid desert flatlands, loose sandy
washes, hard pan flats and rocky areas below
    5,000 ft.
  • They are also common among hummocks , creosote
where Kangaroo Rats and other rodents burrow.

6
Conclusion
  • Here are some animals that are and are not
adapted to the pond habitat at V.U.E.S. We
learned about the Garter Snake, Snapping Turtle
and the Horned Rattle Snake. There are a lot more
animals or insects that are adapted to the
    outdoor classroom at V.U.E.S.
