4Alcohol
Alcohol is a depressant that can effect people
in a huge variety of ways - some folk are
pleasantly relaxed by the drug, others lose their
inhibitions completely while for the less
fortunate it can turn them into mumbling,
dribbling bores or crazed psychotic nutters.

Some people regularly drink too much or are
unable to stop drinking. This can cause problems
for them or for other people. From this

Alcohol is used in many social environments. It
changes the way we feel, can reduce inhibition
and can help us to feel less anxious (or more
confident) around other people. Drinking is often
associated with enjoyment and celebration, but we
also use it when we feel worried or unhappy, to
blank-out feelings we would prefer not to
experience. From this site http//www.brookes.ac

5Cannabis
When smoked, the effects (of Cannabis) are
usually felt fairly quickly with people feeling
more relaxed, happy and generally laid back.
Strong cannabis can also lead to pointless
giggling, loss of inhibitions and an enhanced
appreciation of music and colours.Another from

6Ecstasy
Many medical experts believe that low levels are
associated with depression. The chemical is
produced by one neuron and released into the
synapses, transmitting information to another
neuron before being absorbed back into the first
in a process known as reuptake. From this site

- People generally don't die DIRECTLY from the
toxic effects of ecstasy and the reason such
deaths do occur is not yet fully known. What we
do know is that 'ecstasy-related' deaths tend to
fall into three categories - heat-stroke,
- excessive amounts of fluid,
- heart failure.

7Solvents
When people think of solvent abuse, the first
thoughts are usually about glue sniffing, however
abusers do not just sniff glue From this site

During this session we have only been able to
touch on some of the issues surrounding substance
abuse. However, we just have a little time to
take a look at PEER PRESSURE (something very
important in these matters) and WHERE TO SEEK
HELP for yourself or for the friend you are
worried about gtgtgtgt
8Peer Pressure?
No matter how old we are, we all have to put up
with peer pressure you may hear of people
keeping up with the Joneses. The drinking of
alcohol and taking (smoking, sniffing etc.) of
other drugs or stimulants is often just the same.

The difference between good peer pressure and
bad peer pressure can be summed up with a simple
comparison - when it is good, you are a member of
the crowd when it is bad, you are part of a
mob. downloaded 13/09/06 http//tinyurl.com/ka

Peer pressure neednt be a bad thing, but you do
need to try and remain true to your own beliefs
and look out for your own safety
