Wacked Out Weather
  • Above Light Pillar

2
Halos!
  • Halos are optical phenomenon that appear near the
sun, moon, or other strong light sources.
  • They are caused by ice crystals in the cold
Cirrus clouds in the upper Troposphere.
  • The shape of the ice crystals will affect what
    type of Halo you see.
  • Light is then reflected and refracted through the
    ice crystals, forming a Halo!

3
  • A sun pillar (also known as a Light Pillar) is
similar to a Halo. Like a Halo they are caused by
ice crystals that reflect and refract light so
that it looks like a beam of light is shooting
    out of the sky.

Sun Pillars
4
Crepuscular Rays!
  • Crepuscular rays are merely rays of sun that
appear to be coming from a single point in the
    sky.
  • They are diverging columns of sunlight, which are
    separated by darker regions.

5
Icebows!
  • Icebows are extremely similar to rainbows. The
only difference is that light shines through ice
crystals and splits into an arch-shape.

6
Sun Dogs!
  • A sun dog is bright spot taking the shape of a
    circle on a solar Halo.
  • Sun dogs typically appear when the sun is low in
the sky. (such as the above)

7

Raining Animals!
  • First, no, animals are not literally raining.
  • All it is are animals falling from the sky
because of either strong winds or water spouts,
which are tornadoes over water that suck water
upward and throw them up to several miles away!

8
Thundersnow!
  • A Thundersnow is really rare. The only difference
between it and a thunderstorm is that snow falls
    as the primary precipitation.

9
Rainbows!
  • Rainbows are beams of light that have been split
into color by water droplets or mist.
  • Sometimes, there is a double rainbow in the sky.
  • There is no end of a rainbow.

10
Diamond Dust!
  • First, all Diamond dust is a ground level cloud
    made up of ice crystals.
  • Diamond dust is mostly polar.
  • Although it is like fog in the way that it is
ground level, it does not reduce visibility.

11
The Novaya Zemlya Effect!
  • The Novaya Zemlya effect is a polar hallucination
that gives the impression that the sun is rising
    earlier than it should be.
  • On occasion, it will also give the illusion that
the sun is a rectangle or line shape.
