1THE POWER OF YOUTH IN ADVOCACY
A snapshot of the Canadian experience.
2For the past 11 years, Mines Action Canada (MAC)
has committed itself to incorporating youth into
its campaign.
3MAC has incorporated youth into the campaign in
several ways
4- The co-creation of the Youth Mine Action
Ambassador Program (YMAAP) which is now a
domestic outreach volunteer program called CAN
LEAP
5- Providing youth leader training events alongside
Meeting of State Parties such as the Model Review
Conference in Jordan, November 2008
6 Or organizing regional youth leader trainings
Cairo, Egypt
New Delhi, India
Moscow, Russia
7- Supporting international initiatives such as
Youth Against War (YAW) and profiling
international youth activists
Creator of YAW, Song Kosal, signs a banner used
in Washington D.C. March 2001
8Sending Young Professional Canadians overseas to
support the work of our partners
9Producing a multi-lingual guide for campaigners
on how to work with youth in advocacy
10Through this experience, MAC has been overwhelmed
