Sense of Touch
  • By Angela Payne

2
Your Sense of Touch
  • While your other four senses (sight, hearing,
smell, and taste) are located in specific parts
of the body, your sense of touch is found all
    over.

3
Today we are going to explore our sense of touch
in our fingertips.
4
Supplies Needed
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Large sock that has been prepared with a variety
    of mystery items.
  • Magnifying glass

5
Lets Explore!
  • Step One Put one hand in the sock that
contains several mystery items. NO PEEKING!
  • Step Two What do you feel?
  • Step Three Write down the items you feel on
    your paper.

6
  • Fingertips are so sensitive that you use them to
feel temperature, texture, shape, and sharpness
more than any other part of your body.

7
It is now time to lookin the sock
  • Empty the sock and look at the items.
  • What items were easy to identify? Why?
  • What items were more difficult to identify? Why?

  • The skin on your fingertips is more sensitive
than on other areas on your hand. You can feel
things and tell what they are more easily with
the tips of your fingers than you can with the
palm or the back of your hand. The ridges in
your fingertips make it easier for you to hold on
to things. These ridges also make your
    fingerprints.

10
Did you know no two people on earth have the same
fingerprints?
