CHOSEN POLISH HUCUL HORSES STUDS

The values of hucul horses breed are strongly
consolidated features. Huculs are hard,
brave-hearted, resistant to diseases and
environment conditions.

In a small population such as hucul horses is, it
is necessary to avoid inbreeding by choosing low
related parental pairs.

Material

• pedigree data of 156 hucul stallions registered
  in VIII volume of Hucul Horses Stud Book and
  others registered in earlier volumes and still
  used in reproduction
• pedigree data of mares listed in 2006 in studs

Methods

• The relationship coefficients were calculated
  by Hendersons method in relationship matrix.
• Whole pedigrees were used (12 13
  generations).

The average values of relationship coefficient
between stallions and groups of mares from
considered studs

Discussion

• The mean relationship coefficient between
  stallion and mares group fluctuated from 2,57 to
  40,20. For the most stallions this coefficient
  was higher then 10.
• Brzeski et al. reported in 1985 that the average
  relationship coefficient between stallions and
  mares from Siary Stud and Rymanów fluctuated from
  3,30 to 16,47.
• According to Olech the highest relationship
  coefficient between stallion and mare from Siary
  Stud in 1984 was equal to 12,67.

• The Skarbiec was
• the only one of considered
• studs where stallion with
• low mean relationship
• coefficient with mares was
• used.
• This stallion is Bandita
• (Ousor Zmrzlik Mars
• Luna Gurgul Edo 2-6)
• born in Hucul Club Praha.

• Bieszczady National Park used for breeding
  Ousor VIII-50 (Ousor VIII Goral XV-41) born in
  Lucina Stud. He was used from 2004 to 2006.
• There was also used Puchacz (Prislop X-8
  Puszka (Prislop X-4)) born on Janusz Szots farm.
  He was used only in 2004 and left seven foals.

• Gladyszów Stud used for breeding Hroby XXI-50
  (Hroby XXI Pietrosu VIII-23) and Prislop IX-81
  (Prislop IX Pietrosu IX-14) both born in
  Lucina Stud.
• Hroby XXI-50 was used from 1996 to 2002.
  Prislop IX-81 was used from 1997 to 2001.

• (Hroby VII Ousor-12)
• born in
• Topolcianki Stud?
• He has only two foals
• in Poland.

Conclusions

• All low related to mares stallions should be
  wider used in Polish breed of hucul horses to
  prevent increase of inbred level.
• Especially Hroby VII-25 and Puchacz should be
  used because of small number of progeny - Puchacz
  has seven foals in Poland, Hroby VII-25 has only
  two.
