Camperworld
  • Closest dive site to USU (half an hour drive
    west)
  • Geothermally heated great in the winter (water
    about 92 degrees), closed during summer
  • Two ponds Indian Springs is smaller but
    clearer water (to about 15 feet visiblity). Max
    depth about 22 feet in each.
  • Admission 8 for certified divers (need dive
    insurance?), 15 for dive class members.
  • Life few aquatic plants, snails, and small fish.
  • Overall murky water, but very convenient (and
    warm) place for winter diving. Common dive site
    for checkout dives

Camperworld

Bear Lake
  • Relatively close a little over an hour to Cisco
    Beach (the dive site) on the eastern shore.
  • Warm enough to dive June to October (with thick
    wetsuit). Visibility 30 feet
  • Day use fee (?) or camp overnight (10)
  • Short walk to a rocky shore entry. Quick
    drop-off to beyond recreational limits. Use a
    dive flag.
  • Small caves, some fish (trout, carp, sculpin)
  • Overall convenient dive site if you have
    appropriate thermal gear.

Homestead Crater
  • Busiest dive site in Utah. Located in Midway,
    near Heber (2½ hour drive)
  • Geothermally heated 95 degrees all year (no
    wetsuit needed).
  • Neat dive site through a cave, inside a small
    mountain. 60 deep, visibility 40 feet.
    Swim-thrus and other things suspended. Gear
    rental available on site.
  • Admission 22/27 (weekdays/weekends, register
    well in advance of trip).
  • Life none
  • Overall Definitely dive it once. Popular for
    check out dives.

Bonneville Seabase
  • Most interesting Utah dive site?
  • Water temp varies with season dive during summer
    best (may still want wetsuit). Poor visibility
    (3 feet). Gear rental available.
  • Several interconnected ponds stocked with
    tropical fish (bring romaine lettuce), including
    2 nurse sharks.
  • Admission 15 (call in advance).
  • Overall Definitely dive it once, and make sure
    you find the sharks.

Blue Lake
  • Long drive (4 hours) out Hwy 80, near Wendover.
    Dirt road.
  • Geothermally heated (70 degrees, likely want
    wetsuit). Gets warmer toward hot pots on bottom.
    Vis 15 ft. Depth 50 feet. Small dock, some
    metal sculptures underwater. Nearest facilities
    (lodging/food) in Wendover.
  • Life fish relatively common
  • Overall, nice dive site, but no shops nearby for
    rental or fills and its very far away.
