The Cotton Plant

• About two months after the cotton seeds are
  planted flower buds appear.
• Later the blossoms open, leaving seed pods called
  cotton bolls which resemble cotton candy floss.
  
• The fibers are separated from the seeds (ginning)
  and are spun into cotton thread to make cloth.
• Each plant may bear up to 100 bolls.

• The United States cotton industry exports 6
  million to 9 million bales of raw cotton every
  year. The annual value of the cotton exceeds 3
  billion.
