Get To Know The Teacher
  • This is my 4th year of teaching First grade in
    Colonial School District.
  • I have a degree in Elementary Ed. K-6 from
    Wilmington University.
  • I am currently at Wilmington University working
    on my masters in Technology.

Homework
  • A weekly Homework Sheet will be sent home each
    Monday.
  • Please make sure that your childs homework is
    complete and placed back in the folder to be
    returned to school.
  • If you have a busy week please let me know and I
    will send the homework for the week home on
    Monday.

  • 200- 215 Recess
  • 215-300 Science / Social Studies
  • 300- 314 Pack up/Dismissal

Behavior Plan
  • Green Card On task
  • Yellow Card 5 minutes of recess lost
  • Red Card All of recess lost
  • Please remember to sign and return behavior cards
    each Monday!

June Bags
  • Any toys brought into school that your child is
    playing with or is distracted by will be placed
    in their June Bag.
  • Students will receive their June Bag and items on
    the last day of School.

Birthdays
  • Wilbur Elementary has a new policy on Birthday
    celebrations.
  • You may not sent treats in for the students.
  • You may however order a tray of treats to be
    delivered to your child's class during lunch.
  • This is to eliminate reactions to allergies some
    students may have.

Nurses Office
  • This year the nurses office is requiring ALL
    students to keep a spare pair of clothes in their
    lockers.
  • This is incase of an accident, spill, etc.
  • Please make sure that if you did not send a bag
    of clothes in to do so by the end of the week.

Student of the Week
  • Each week I will choose a student to be our
    Student of the Week.
  • They will fill in a form on Monday night and
    bring it back to school on Tuesday so that we can
    begin the bulletin board display.
  • Pictures are welcome but not necessary!
  • Any items brought in for the display will be
    returned by the following Monday!

Book Orders
  • Once a month I will send out a book order form.
  • I try to attach a list of some titles that might
    relate to the curriculum or that the students
    might enjoy.
  • Please do not feel obligated to purchase the
    books on my list.
  • This is just an inexpensive way to expand your
    collection.

Overview of Math
  • We use the TERC math program.
  • TERC is a hands on approach to learning math.
  • Main Concepts we learn sorting, patterns,
    adding, subtracting,classifying etc.
  • Towards the end of the year we learn about time
    and money but these are not part of the TERC
    curriculum.

Language Arts / Reading
  • This year we are using a new form of our reading
    series from Harcourt.
  • Small group instruction is also part of our
    reading series.
  • We will begin to learn and implement centers in
    the next couple of weeks.

Science
  • Science is a hands on learning experience.
  • Throughout the year we will be learning about
  • Weather
  • Solids / Liquids
  • Organisms

Social Studies
  • We also use a Harcourt series for Social Studies.
  • In the winter we learn about holidays around the
    world.
  • At the end of the year we participate in Wildcat
    World Cruise where students travel to different
    classrooms and learn about different countries!
