and given appropriate tasks that cover different
learning styles.
Achievement Pupils are motivated when given
challenging tasks in contexts they can relate to.
Fieldwork gives pupils a real sense of achievement
4
Co-operation and participation Organised group
work focuses on what children want to find out
and demand collaborative skills e.g. deciding
what questions to ask a chef at a local pub.
5
Reputation and Behaviour
Taking children out to meet and interview local
people enhances the reputation of both community
and school. It is a two way process and involves
pupils and communities.

  • Attendance and Attitudes
  • Pupils are excited by fieldwork because
  • they are naturally curious about their
    surroundings
  • they are motivated by asking their own
    questions
  • they enjoy participating in the planning and
    preparation
  • they value responsibility and challenge
  • they relish opportunities to become involved and
    have a say.

Pupils enjoy being at school and being involved
in learning that is exciting, real and
meaningful. Fieldwork provides a sense of
achievement.

What the children said
I have learnt ever so much about birds, boats and
all sorts of different places and how to look
after our neighbourhood and not to vandalise it.
I am really lucky to be at school.
Thank you for showing me around the docks. I
really enjoyed it.
I learnt how to use a digital camera. We had
loads of fun.
Well I really liked the memorial and the Poppies
were beautiful in Queenborough. What I didnt
like was the dog fouling.
I had a lovely time. I really enjoyed listening
to the sky larks singing
