Important facts about the Nile River
  • The largest river in the world provides fish,
    hippopotamuses, and crocodiles. It provides
transportation throughout Egypt. Ever July the
Nile starts to flood which makes the water come
out of its banks and fertilizes the land.

Daily life in Ancient Egypt
  • All life centered around the Nile River and
the small villages. People raised crops or took
care of sheep, cattle, goats and pigs. Towns
were a busy place. Women cooked, carried water
from the Nile, and took care of the children.
Men were employed to build the pyramids, to
travel on the Nile, and to work in the villages.
They did not have money so they traded things.
Ostriches were very important they were used in
    fans and in headdresses.

Housing in Ancient Egypt
  • The palaces and temples were built of stone
blocks by slaves and servants. The regular
houses were made of sun-dried mud bricks from the
Nile. Their ovens were made of mud bricks too.
The roofs were flat so that they could sleep on
them when it was hot. All the houses had few
windows and vents on the roof. The average house
had stools, a table, and beds. Chairs were a
    sign of wealth.

Clothing in Ancient Egypt
  • The people dressed in white cloth made out of
thin linen because of the heat. Men wore a short
kilt and women wore an ankle length tunic. When
it was cold, everyone wore a cloak made of wool.
Many people wore jewelry especially rings and
earrings. The rich people also wore beautiful
    headdresses. Everyone wore make-up especially
eye paint called kohl. Boys wore their hair
shaved with one lock down the side and girls wore
their hair in a number of braids. Adults usually
