Current projects

• We currently run 30 separate initiatives to widen
  Healthcare participation
• These cover
• Raising aspirations
• Facilitation progression
• Retention
• Today were going to look at two specific projects

The Experiments Roadshow

• An interactive, practical session linking school
  science to healthcare science
• Totally portable
• Delivered in schools, colleges, health-fairs,
  summer schools etc.
• A lesson in a box
• Physiotherapy, Radiography, Medicine(Nursing on
  its way)

Some key points about the Roadshow

• Must be interactive
• Must be easily repeatable (i.e. no need to
  replace components)
• Delivered by student volunteers who receive full
  training(and a Community Education Award)
• Currently franchised to all Scottish Medical
  Schools (and University of Sydney!)

A Taste of Medicine- An interactive CD-ROM

• Aimed at year 9 students
• Covering all aspects of Healthcare
• Games, quizzes, video, animation
• Aspirational, vocational AND educational
• Originally 8,000 copies. Have now hit 67,000!
  (all of London and SE AimHigher)
• Now lets have a look (or should that be play?!)

CD-ROM Distribution

• Now matter how good the product is, if you dont
  reach the audience its a waste of time
• Distributed through AimHigher network
• School assembly to all year 9, supported by more
  intense sessions
• Full resource pack provided with lesson plans,
  evaluation, technical support etc.
