  • Purpose of the study
  • Assess the level of support among hospital
    leadership, friends and donors to engage in a
    major fundraising campaign
  • Test the viability of an initial working goal
    of 400 million over seven years
  • Characteristics of the study
  • During Summer 2004, conducted 100 face-to-face
    interviews and 350 telephone interviews
  • Results of the study
  • CMH has an outstanding local and regional
    reputation
  • Administration and leadership are highly regarded
  • Facilities seen as antiquated and functionally
    obsolete

Feasibility Study Findings
  • Results of the study also confirmed
  • The need for a new facility is well understood
    and endorsed by the internal family
  • Childrens Memorial is ranked as a high
    philanthropic priority for 82 of those
    interviewed
  • A high degree of philanthropic commitment from
    Board Members was seen as essential to Campaign
    success
  • Board members set the financial target for their
    personal commitments in this Campaign at 100
    percent Board participation and a minimum of 100
    million in giving

Philanthropy and the New Hospital
  • In November 2004, Childrens Memorials Boards
    unanimously resolved that Childrens Memorial
    undertake a 400M comprehensive campaign in two
    phases
  • Leadership Campaign Quiet Phase
  • Two-year campaign with 200M goal achieved by
    2007
  • Public Phase
  • Five year campaign targeting the remaining 200M
    achieved by 2011
  • 250 million will be designated for bricks and
    mortar for the new childrens hospital.
  • 150 will be dedicated to support medical
    research and other programs critical to
    Childrens Memorials core mission.
