    surgical scrub
  • Demonstrate the steps of the surgical scrub

    limiting microbial spread consists of

  • PPE- worn to protect the team member and the
    patient from microbial contact and environmental
    hazards consists of

    nonsterile gloves
  • Scrub- sterile gown and gloves

Preliminary Preparations
  • Remove jewelry
  • Don personal protective equipment
  • Inspect integrity of nails and skin

  • Preliminary wash and subungual cleaning

  • No-scrub method
  • Considerations
  • Scrub from fingertips to elbows
  • Maintain hands/wrists above the level of the
    elbow
  • Avoid contact with nonsterile surfaces

Alcohol-Based Brushless Scrub
  • Hands and fingernails must be thoroughly cleansed
    prior to using the brushless scrub
  • When used properly, this method is as effective
    as a standard surgical scrub
  • Consult manufacturers instructions about
    recommended use
