• We have identified problems in reaching the team
• Getting past the practice manager or dentist who
  files literature under B for bin
• Dental nurses find it difficult to attend courses
  if the dentist is working in the surgery.
• Hygienists and Therapists have problems if they
  are self employed or work in several practices

• CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR DCPs
• As a result we are moving towards more in-
  practice training, it is good for team work and
  enables the whole team to train together
• We have found training a mixed audience in large
  numbers does not work well. We now are aiming
  towards back to back type courses with
  comparable programmes for all the team

• PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT PLANS
• Established network of 4 CPD Tutors for Dentists
  in Wales
• CPD tutors assist Dentists in devising an
  extensive Personal Development Plan.This requires
  a considerable commitment by the Dentist, and
  follow-up visits by the CPD Tutor

• PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT PLANS
• Educational Programme divided into core, general
  and peripheral CPD. Each topic is allocated
  recommended repeat intervals
• Funded by Welsh Assembly to extend scheme to
  whole practice team in 2006

• Appointed two Practice Development Tutors in 2006
  and are currently recruiting a third
• Practice Development Tutors work with existing
  CPD Tutors
• Targeting DCPs and Dentists and are being
  received enthusiastically
