- Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education
- OHSU 8 Community Colleges
- A common set of prerequisites allows students to
apply to all OCNE schools. - Articulated with OHSU for completion of the BS in
Nursing in one additional year. - Apply to as many schools as feasible!
5The Big Picture
- Year 1 Prerequisites
- Year 2 1st year of Nursing requirements
- Year 3 2nd year of Nursing requirements
- In Fall term, students decide whether they want
to - Finish their AAS in Nursing at the end of this
year, or - Continue for 1 additional year earn their BS in
Nursing - AAS students eligible for the RN Licensure exam
- Year 4 3rd year of Nursing requirements for BS
in Nursing students only

- PCC Chemeketa are NOT part of OCNE
- PCC plans to join OCNE in 2010

7Application Cycle
- Students may begin prerequisites in any term.
- At least 30 credits of prerequisites completed by
the end of Winter 2009. - Must include BI 231 and Math competency
- Applications most likely be due at the end of
Winter Term 2009 - Applications are scored on a point system

- About 100-120 students are invited to interview
in Spring 2009. - All interviewees are ranked.
- Top 40 students are notified of acceptance.
- All others are placed on a alternate list and
notified in rank order should a place become
available. - Admitted students must complete all prereqs by
end of Summer 2009 for Fall start.

- Focuses mainly on grades in completed courses
- Must be submitted by published deadline in 2009
- Look for it online in January 2009

completed by the end of Winter term 2009 - All 45 credits must be completed by the end of
Summer 2009 - Cumulative GPA of prerequisite courses must be at
least a 3.0 - Individual courses must be completed with a
letter grade of C or better

- The Anatomy Physiology Sequence 12 cr
- BI 112 CH 112 are preres for AP at CCC.
- CH 112 has a prereq of MTH 065.
- BI 231 API must be completed by the end of
Winter term 2009. - BI 231, 232 233 must be completed in sequence.
- Must be completed within past 5 years (not
before Summer 2004)

- FN 225 Nutrition 4 cr
- FN 270 from PCC is OK
- Some students have noted that Nutrition is easier
after having completed CH 112 - PSY 215 Human Development 4 cr
- WR 121 122 6-8 cr
- Pass WR 095 or be placed into WR 121
- Must be completed in sequence

- Natural Science 14 cr
- At least 6 credits must come from the Social
Science area (in addition to PSY 215) - BI 112 CH 112 may be used to fulfill 8 credits
- Choose courses from approved subject areas
- Elective Credits varies
- Any college-level credits (courses numbered 100
or higher) to meet 45 credit requirement.

- Math 095 or higher
- Students must demonstrate math competency by
- Completion of MTH 095 with a C or higher
- Placement into MTH 105/111 or higher
- Must be completed by the end of Winter 2009

- Students can demonstrate computer literacy by
- Completing CS 120 with a C or higher
- Earn 62 points on CCCs Computer Literacy Test
- CS 120 can be used as a Natural Science elective
or General Elective credit - Must be completed within past 5 years (not

22Thinking about the BSN, consider
- Foreign Language requirement
- The BSN degree requires students to have
- two years of a foreign language in HS, or
- two terms at the college level

do I know if/how they count? - Submit official transcripts to Enrollment
Services (Rook Hall) with a Transfer Credit
Evaluation Request form. - How do I know where to start with Math and
Writing courses? - Visit the Testing Center (Rook Hall) to have your
ACT/SAT evaluated or take the placement tests. - If you have previous college math or writing
credit, talk with an advisor.

- What if I retake a prerequisite course?
- The more recent course will factor into the
cumulative GPA, not the better grade.

- Are there any courses I can take before getting
into the Nursing Program other than prereqs? - Yes BI 234, WR 123/227, MTH 243.
- Students must complete a biology course with
genetics prior to the 2nd term of the program (BI
112 fulfills this requirement).

- But I took a different Biology course and it had
genetics in it. Do I need to take BI 112 as well?
