6Partnerships with universities
- Clear roles and responsibilities regarding
student selection, support and supervision - A single point of contact for ISCHS and the uni
for all aspects of fieldwork placement planning
and administration (but not student supervision) - ISCHS providing details of student quotas per
discipline at least six months in advance - ISCHS participating in the uni curriculum
development and reviews
7Partnerships with universities
- ISCHS staff delivering guest lectures at the uni
- Uni providing Student Supervision courses to
ISCHS staff at no cost - ISCHS receiving financial remuneration for
placements where possible - Uni facilitating post-graduate students to
participate in ISCHS research priorities - A timeframe to trial arrangements and revise as
required
8Partnerships
- Uni participating in ISCHS student related
evaluations and reviews - ISCHS hosting (first year) student agency visits
- ISCHS access to library and university e-library
9Past and present challenges
- Number of student requests for placement and
ability to respond to requests - Developing MOUs with key universities
- Keeping data on number of placements and the
student experience - Status in relation to the larger public health
institutions and our bargaining power with
universities (particularly in relation to RD) - Resource issues
10Workforce Strategies
- Mental Health Team Grade 1 entrance
opportunities - Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team
and across Program areas - Opportunities for observational/field/health
promotion activities - Difficulty recruiting RPNs and identified need
to target nurses with an interest in mental
health - Difficulty recruiting Dental Assistants/Nurses
but also difficult to support students with
output based funding arrangements (TAFE).
11Where to?
- ISCHS aims to develop MOUs with 2-3 universities
(and maybe a TAFE) - We aim to ensure a reciprocal arrangement around
research and development - Monitor and evaluate the student experience and
also the benefits to ISCHS - Ensure students are aware community health and
the social model of health
