Title: Workshop on Bioinformatics: Tools in Biosequence analysis and biocomputing
1Workshop on Bioinformatics Tools in Biosequence
analysis and biocomputing
- Venue Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Noida
- 8th-10th September, 2005
Organised by Bioinformatics Division
Amity Institute of Biotechnology
Sector-125, Noida
In collaboration with
Mascon Life Sciences
Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
2- About the Workshop
-
- Bioinformatics applies principles of
information sciences and technologies to make the
vast, diverse, and complex life sciences data
more understandable and useful. It deals with
research, development, or application of
computational tools and approaches for expanding
the use of biological, medical, behavioral or
health data, including those to acquire, store,
organize, archive, analyze, or visualize such
data. The overall goal of this data upgrade
process is to elucidate cell function and
physiology from a comprehensive set of
measurements. Various computational methods are
being widely used to address a broad spectrum of
problems in functional genomics and cell
physiology, including analysis of sequences,
(alignment, homology discovery, gene annotation),
gene clustering, pattern recognition/discovery in
large-scale expression data, elucidation of
genetic regulatory circuits, analysis of
metabolic networks and signal transduction
pathways in metabolic engineering, drug design,
and biotechnology. -
- Amity Institute of Biotechnology has a well
equipped Bioinformatics lab and plans to organize
a series of workshops, with a target that at the
end of the entire series the growing body of
information from molecular biology and genome
research is available to the participants in ways
that promote scientific progress and in building
their careers. -
- This workshop, the first in the series, will
help the participants in their step-wise
knowledge building under one roof shared by
distinguished speakers from academia as well as
the corporate sector. It aims at familiarizing
scientists with the enormous potential of IT
integration. The highlights of the workshop are
the intensive hand-on-experience on real-time
problem solving sessions complementing the
interactions with the renowned speakers. -
- The first three day workshop will be held on
8th, 9th and 10th of September, 2005.
3- Workshop Highlights
-
- The three day workshop will focus on how
to use public databases and bioinformatics
software to facilitate nucleotide and protein
sequence analysis. It will also address the
basic questions one can ask starting with a
sequence, the types of algorithms that are
available, resources for running those algorithms
and interpreting the results. -
- Each day there will be lectures and hands-on
computer lab-sessions. The participants would
also be provided with workshop materials. The
broad areas to be covered during various sessions
include - Type and organization of biological data
- Data modeling and warehousing needed for
biological analysis - Use of statistical methods for DNA Sequence
analysis - Protein sequence Analysis and Phylogenetic
analysis - 3-D structure visualization, structure analysis
and prediction - Interpretation of large-scale gene expression
data applications to comparative genomics - Transcriptome Alternate splicing and gene
expression - Emerging business Opportunities across the globe,
new language of omes and omics - Hands-on experience on related software, case
studies, actual real-time problem solving and
open discussion session
4- Level
- The workshop is intended for principal
investigators, postdoctoral fellows, graduate
students, advanced undergraduates, and other
scientific staff who either work in genomics and
proteomics or are interested in understanding how
to incorporate such data into their research. - Biotechnology/Life science/pharmaceutical
professionals and managers seeking an applied
introduction to the areas of bioinformatics. - IT professionals/graduates wishing to expand
their skills and experience into the growing
field of bioinformatics.
5About AIB The Amity Institute of Biotechnology
(AIB) is located on the sprawling Amity
University, U.P., Amity Campus in Sector 125 at
