This is a comparison of two mixing models
designed to account for the composition of water
flowing through Phoenix in 2005. Binary model
(open symbols) loads calculated below the
confluence of the Salt Verde rivers (Tempe
Topwn Lake) involves only the discharges and
concentrations of the Salt Verde rivers well
upstream of the confluence. Conclusion Other
processes are involved. Complex model (filled
symbols) adds in CAP canal water, effluent from
Mesa treatment plant and natural additions from
groundwater, as well as estimates of loss to
subsurface. Conclusion better representation of
data that allows us to resolve the composition of
unmeasurable factors like loss to subsurface!
Result We can predict the composition of water
that recharges the aquifer. Publication in prep.

Micro Sensor Network for water monitoring
Flexible flow sensor
  • Understanding water system is the foundation of
    proper water policy
  • Biogeochemical and physics parameter detection of
    river system is the key
  • Proper detection and monitor platform will
    improve the accuracy and efficiency
  • Answer 1) Wireless sensor network 2) Flexible
    sensors
  • Wireless easy and real time data collection and
    analysis
  • Sensor miniature and low power sensor with
    necessary performance
  • Network wide coverage, precise landscape scale
    monitoring
  • Flexibility fitting complex models

Current developments Both wireless sensor
network and flexible sensors are very popular
topic. Berkeley Mote short range communication
and complicate communication architecture. Power
problem Smart textiles flexible wearable sensor
arrays
