CPU and electronics
Indicator light
Miniature 3V lithium battery
Permanent electro-chemical display
1Thermal sensor for oral flow
6How SleepStrip scores an event
- X lt50 - hypopnea
- X lt10 - Apnea
Apnea complete stop of flow for more than 10
seconds Hypopnea Partial block of flow for more
than 10 seconds AHI (RDI) Apnea/Hypopnea Index
average number of total events per hour of sleep
7SleepStrip readout
Healthy subject less than 15 events per hour
Mild Sleep Apnea 15 to 24 events per hour
Mild Sleep Apnea 25 to 39 events per hour
Severe Sleep Apnea more than 40 events per hour
Error too short study or other problems.
8SleepStrip operation
- Must clean display before study for good
readability - Activated by attaching green sticker on display,
light ON to mark proper activation - During first 20 minutes, light flashes with each
breath, normal respiration calibrated (assume
patient still awake) - After 20 minutes flashing stops and actual study
begins (assume patient is already asleep) - Must be on face at least 4.5 hours for a valid
study - When removed, long apnea signals end of study
and light will turn ON - After 30 minutes display can be read after
removing the green sticker, do not remove sticker
sooner
