What are the requirements for DDS membership?

• GPA 3.0 or higher
• Meeting attendance ON TIME
• Dues 20 (members) or 25 (rushees) a semester
• Service Points
• Dental related
• Non-dental related

Member Requirements

• Attend 4 meetings each semester
• Dues 20 per semester (25 if late)
• Earn 14 service points each semester
• 7 may be from attending meetings (1 pt/meeting)
• All others must be from society-sponsored
  activities (at least one point per category)
• Dental related
• Non-Dental related

Rushee Requirements

• Attend 5 meetings during rush semester
• Attend new member induction ceremony
• Dues 25 per semester (30 if late)
• Earn 16 service points each semester
• 7 may be from attending meetings
• All others must be from society-sponsored
  activities. (at least one points per category)

• Non-Dental related

Ronald McDonald House

• For families with child in hospital
• Home cooked meal for 40 people
• Takes about 1-3 hr.
• Volunteer to grocery shop 1 point

Dental Observation

• Shadow Dentists in the area
• Become familiar with dental procedures
• Discover new specialties
• Make contacts (for recommendations)
• 1 hour 1 point (dental)
• Turn in summaries

Carnivore Preservation Trust

• Volunteer-run organization
• Seeks to protect endangered species and
  threatened ecosystems
• Home to many endangered and threatened species
• One point for donation (non-dental)

Orphanage Outreach

• Alternative Spring Break to the Dominican
  Republic 
• Bring dental supplies and provide hygiene
  instructions for orphans 
• Must raise 700 and raise/provide 500 for
  airfare
• Money due by December 15

• Volunteer group led by students at the UNC School
  of Dentistry
• They sponsor free dental screenings and other
  activities
• Missions of Mercy Free Dental Clinics
• Mouth Guard
• SHAC
• Pre-dental students would get to
• Observe
• Translate (Spanish-English)
• Direct traffic

Missions of Mercy Dental Clinics

• Organized and executed by Dr. Slott
• Once trained, pre-dental students can
• Assist dental procedures
• Sterilize instruments
• Take radiographs (x-rays)
• Help with set-up and clean-up
• And more!
• 1pt 1 hr (dental)

Dental SHAC

• Provides free dental care to Chapel Hill
  Community
• Opportunities to observe, screen, and manage
  patient files

• Be involved in applying for grants!
• Work/volunteer in the dental field outside of DDS
  (Members Only)
• 1 hour 1 point (max)
• Research Articles summarize two articles for
  one point

• Habitat for Humanity
• Blood donation (1 point)
• Test file (1 point for 2 old exams w/ answers
  turned in)
